Formation of Youth Forum:

During the year 2010-2011, the topic about the formation of Youth Forum was introduced in the Kaisthana Samithi Committee Meeting in January 2011. After varied talks in the committee meeting, the Kaisthana Samithi of 2010-2011 approved to pass the subject to attain the General Body’s approval, and hence, the topic was added to the agenda of the General Body.

On 11thFebruary 2011, the General Body took place immediately after the Holy Communion Service under the chairmanship of Rev. Thomas Kurien Anchery at The Mar Thoma Church, Abu Dhabi. As per the agenda of the General Body, the subject was spoken by Mr. Praven Philip Eapen (Kaisthana Samithi member). After presenting about the Youth Forum and also of the norms, the matter was put for open discussion and the General Body approved the need for the establishment of the Youth Forum. Hence, the “Youth Forum of the Abu Dhabi Mar Thoma Church(ADMTC YF)” came into existence since then.

As per the approval of the General Body, the Youth Forum will run under the direction of the Vicar as President and in cooperation with the Yuvajana Sakhyam.

The First General Body of the Youth Forum was held on 25thFebruary 2011 under the chairmanship of the Vicar and President Rev. Thomas Kurien Anchery in the Church after the Holy Communion Service. The need and purpose of the Youth Forum was clearly defined by the Vicar, and also the conclusions from the General Body. The office bearers and committee members were elected for the year 2011-2012.

About Youth Forum:

The Youth Forum was established because of the need for the young members of the Church who are born and brought up here, outside Kerala and outside India to cater their social and spiritual needs.

The Forum has no intention of creating any division in the church between the English speaking and non-English Speaking Youth; but to create peace, harmony and unity. We shall accommodate each other in spite of our social, economic and educational differences.

“Our sole intention is to gather, help, encourage, strengthen and motivate the youngsters of the Church spiritually and responsibly, while ensuring that we abide and follow the principles, culture, values and traditions of the Sabha in all its practices and activities.”

The Forum plans and conducts its activities based on the four objectives namely Worship, Study, Witness and Service.

The activities that the Youth Forum plans are based on the below.

  1. The focus of Forum is to explore ways to connect youths to their faith through Holy Communion Service, Bible Study, Faith-Building Activities, Group Retreats, Social Service Projects, Community Activities, Interacting with all the youths within the Mar Thoma Church from other areas and backgrounds.
  2. The Forum will undertake charity projects within their means and demonstrate their commitment to social work.
  3. The Forum will conduct meaningful study classes in the areas covering Relationships, Behavior, Church History, Health, Education for the less fortunate etc. The Forum shall also organize Debates and Discussions covering contemporary issues.
  4. Our intention is to equip and train ourselves as responsible members of the Church. The members of this Forum will assist the other forums and all Organizations of the Church as and when required. The members will attend regularly all events of the Church such as Area Prayers, Harvest Festival, Edavaka Dinam and Conventions.
  5. This Forum will contact all members of the Church within the mentioned Age Group and inform them of the activities of the Forum and encourage them to participate in the Holy Communion Service, Youth Forum Activities and other Church Activities.

Goals of the Youth Forum:

Some of the goals that the Youth Forum works on are as listed below. These are directly related to the activities of the forum.

  • Help to Multiply Talents of the Youths
  • Help the Youths to equip for challenges in the World
  • Deepen knowledge of the Word of God
  • Prepare for Missions
  • Inculcate a sense of belonging to a Godly, caring community
  • Equip to handle relationships
  • Function as an integral and vital part of the Body of Christ

Activities of the Youth Forum:

The Youth Forum conducted and helped in organizing many activities for the Church. Some of the activities are as listed below just to name a few.

  • Conduct Youth Forum Meetings monthly. The meetings comprises of Praise & Worship, Group Discussions, Debates, Bible Study, Intercessory Prayers etc. One of the meetings is a Cottage Prayer.
  • Helped and coordinated with the activities of Yuvajana Sakhyam such as Youth Camp, Youth Week, Blood Donation Drive, Onam etc. just to name a few.
  • Conducted the Summer Camp of the church during the summer vacations in July-August every year for children of Grade I – XII.
  • Organized the Entertainment Zones of the Harvest Festival every year, and was a part of the Entertainment Committee.
  • Organized Food Stalls every year for the Harvest Festival every year.
  • Played a major role in the Nativity Play held at The National Theater during Christmas 2011. The play was based on the “Birth of Jesus Christ, and the Redemption of Israel and Mankind”.
  • Organized the Pre-Marital Counseling along with Yuvajana Sakhyam as part of the 40th year anniversary of Abu Dhabi Mar Thoma Church.
  • Organized the Young Couples Fellowship along with Yuvajana Sakhyam.
  • Took part in the UAE Center Youth Meetings and hosted in Abu Dhabi also.
  • Conducted Lent Devotion Meetings during the Lent period.
  • Led the Praise and Worship of Abu Dhabi Mar Thoma Parish Mission and Youth Fellowship of Dubai Mar Thoma Church.
  • Organized Joint Meetings with other organizations of the Church.
  • Organized Charity Project “Shoebox Campaign” and contributed for “Labour Camp Ministry” to help and support the laborers in Musaffah.
  • Joined hands with Chennai-Bangalore Diocese to help with the education and evangelization needs of 30 children of the Dodabellapura Mission Field in Karnataka since September 2014.
  • Actively participated in the church’s Family Conference by doing the skit based on the theme.
